疣螈属细痣疣螈种组的物种分布广泛，但形态分化相当保守。除去潘氏疣螈（T.panhai）等体色特征鲜明的物种，在产地未知的前提下，鉴别对于研究人员而言也并非易事。由于大多体色niger，被国内的饲养者一律爱称为”黑麒麟“。近年来由于分子手段的进步，细痣种组大量隐存种被发表，而中文互联网上的相关资料略显滞后，使普通爱好者了解这一类群更加困难。
