I have had the pleasure of enjoying the 2013 vintage more times than I deserve, and occasionally I get to reach back into the cellar and share a vintage with a select few who I know will enjoy it. As you may remember, the 2013 was a phenomenal vintage in Napa. Unlike the 2012 that was open and appealing from nearly minute one, we knew that 2013 needed a little bit of time for its tannins to soften and to fully integrate with the gorgeous dark fruit and spice elements of the wine. All the while, the 2013 retained extraordinary freshness.Twelve years on, the 2013 vintage is coming out of its shell, showing off its intrigue and nuance with every passing day. At the same time, it is a bottle that can certainly age for another fifteen years (if you can wait!), and during that time, it will continue to evolve with grace.
